Info

My name is Lula Valletta. I am a cut-up and art-book-bibliophile born in The Hague (NL) in 1991. Being a freelance artists and curator, desperate of being born about 75 years too late, I try to pick up where the hobbyhorses of the avant-garde left of; rejecting logic, reason and aestheticism of modern capitalist society (in my case quite challenging since The Hague is home of international law and arbitration), instead expressing nonsense, irrationality and anti-bourgeoise protest. At the age of 18, I wandered to Berlin to study art only to return 8 years later arm aber sexy after years of dadaistic practices and living in the footsteps of greats such as Hannah Höch and Georg Grosz.
‘Life is a cut-up’. These wise words by William Burroughs, are my mantra that I tend to live by armed with scissors and glue. I chose (analog) collage as the main focus of my artistic practice (s) since to me it’s the perfect art form to make a statement. I document my work in limited edition, self-published risograph printed artist books, a printing technique that embraces misprinting, which can be found at selected art book stores throughout Europe. I am constantly on the look-out for like-minded artistic souls and bring them together in Prophit, a magazine I founded and self-publish that focuses on contemporary analog collage. I am part of collage collective GlueHeads, cut-up collective Arpsianism and performance collective Schlochtenheim. Besides with collage, books, and hobbyhorses, I try to expand my universe as a freelance curator by organizing workshops, exhibitions, happenings, and performances, all of which are basically a collage too, in a way.

As an artist, I am represented by HOK Gallery, home of the contemporary underground.
Partner of riso print room Stencilwerck.
